SW Heat Wave Sets Records, Grounds Planes

The Southwest is in the middle of a massive heat wave, caused by a kink in the jet stream, in which the temperature in Death Valley averaged 112 over a three-day period, Las Vegas hit a new all-time high of 117, and US Airways had to cancel flights out of Phoenix when temperatures topped 118 degrees, the maximum temperature its planes are certified to fly in.
